AGRA
Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal is the epitome of Mughal art and one of the most famous buildings in the world. Yet there have been few serious studies of it and no full analysis of its architecture and meaning. Ebba Koch, an important scholar, has been permitted to take measurements of the complex and has been working on the palaces and gardens of Shah Jahan for thirty years and on the Taj Mahal itself – the tomb of the emperor’s wife, Mumtaz Mahal – for a decade.
The tomb is the representation of the house of the queen in Paradise, and its setting was based on the palace gardens of the great nobles that lined both sides of the river at Agra India. You will explore the entire complex of the Taj Mahal with an explanation of each building and an account of the mausoleum’s urban setting, its design and construction, its symbolic meaning, and its history up to the present day.
Agra Fort
Agra Fort is another dimension to the city that attracts tourists in hordes. Built by Akbar in Red Sandstone when he was through with the consolidation of his power after accession to power in 1654, Agra Fort worked both as a military strategic point as well as the royal residence. Many of the palaces inside the fort were later added by next generations of Mughal Emperors like Jahangir and Shahjahan.
Most of the buildings within the Agra Fort are a mixture of different architectural styles. The assimilation of these different styles has given the buildings within the fort a distinctive look. For instance, the Jahangiri Palace built by Akbar is a good blend of Islamic (Persian) and different local Hindu styles. Other buildings either have a mixed style or conform predominantly to the Islamic style.
JAIPUR
Hawa Mahal
Constructed in 1799, Hawa Mahal is the most sensational monument in the city of Jaipur. The palace, overlooks one of Jaipur’s main streets and was originally constructed to offer women of the court an upper hand, so that they can watch the activities taking place in the bazaar and the surrounding streets behind stone-carved screens. For this purpose, it was designed with over 900 niches, and the entire building is shaped like a crown adorning Lord Krishna’s head.
The site offers superb views of the city, including the many old palaces and houses which were painted ocher-pink for the 1853 visit of Prince Albert. This five-story, pyramid-shaped structure is made up of small casements, each with tiny windows and arched roofs, beautifully modeled and carved. There is a total lack of ornamentation on the inner face of the building. The chambers are plain and more mass of pillars and passages leading to the top storey.
DELHI
Red Fort
In 1638 Shahjahan transferred his capital from Agra to Delhi and laid the foundations of Shahjahanabad, the seventh city of Delhi. It is enclosed by a rubble stone wall, with bastions, gates and wickets at intervals. Of its fourteen gates, the important ones are the Mori, Lahori, Ajmeri, Turkman, Kashmiri and Delhi gates, some of which have already been demolished. His famous citadel, the Lal-Qila, or the Red Fort, lying at the town’s northern end on the right bank or the Yamuna and south of Salimgarh, was begun in 1639 and completed after nine years. The Red Fort is different from the Agra fort and is better planned, because at its back lies the experience gained by Shahjahan at Agra, and because it was the work of one hand. It is an irregular octagon, with two long sides on the east and west, and with two main gates, one on the west and the other on the south, called Lahori and Delhi gates respectively. While the walls, gates and a few other structures in the fort are constructed of red sandstone, marble has been largely used in the palaces.
Jama Masjid
Near the Red Fort about 500m away is the Jama masjid, the biggest mosque in India. It was begun by Shah Jahan in 1650 and completed six years later and the whole cost about a million rupees. It is hard to imagine a building more suited to evoking the awe of the majesty of Allah in man. The mosque stands on a rocky elevation. Its huge gateway looks down at you like fastidious connoisseur from an immense platform which has steps that lead up to it. Constructed in Sandstone and white marble, Jama Masjid can be entered from both the directions – North and the South Gates. The eastern gateway is supposed to remain open in Friday and was used by the emperor himself. Jama Masjid is cluttered by devotees who offer namaz, especially during Muslim Festival. For those who don’t belong to non – Muslim community, a specified time is mentioned to enter the mosque.

Turkey Travel Tips

HEALTH AND INSURANCE
It is important to have adequate health, travel and accident insurance while touring. No vaccinations are currently required for Turkey. It is best to bring your own medication along in its original prescription bottle.

TIME DIFFERENCE
Turkish standard time is two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time, one hour ahead of Central European time and seven hours ahead of U.S. Eastern Standard time. There is one time zone in Turkey.

CURRENCY INFORMATION FOR TURKEY
There is no limit to the amount of foreign currency that may be brought into Turkey, but as you leave Turkey, it is wise to spend or exchange your Turkish Lira for foreign currency. Currency and Exchange: The currency unit in Turkey is the New Turkish Lira (YTL or TRY). Traveler’s checks are not widely accepted and will generally get a less favorable rate of exchange than cash. American Express traveler’s checks should be cashed at Akbank. The best place to exchange cash is around the “Doviz” offices near the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, but may also be done at P.T.T. (Post) offices in other areas. There are bank machines almost everywhere in Turkey now and cash advance offices in tourist areas where you can use a credit or debit card (Visa, MasterCard etc). Larger shops generally accept US dollars, Euro, traveler’s checks and credit cards, but small shops will accept only cash and you will need Turkish lira for local convenience stores or grocers. American Express is not widely accepted and personal checks almost impossible to cash. A credit card is necessary to rent a vehicle.

PENING HOURS
Banks are open from 8.30 until 12.00 and 13.30 until 17.00 (Monday-Friday). Some banks are open during lunch hours. Post Offices in the large cities are open Monday-Saturday 8.00 to midnight and Sunday 9.00 to 19.00. Smaller post offices are open Monday to Saturday from 8.30 to 17.00. Shop hours are generally from 9.00 to 21.00 Monday to Saturday, but mostly every day and later in tourist areas.

TIPPING
In a restaurant tip around 10%. For porters you should pay around 1 EURO per bag. Round up the bill for taxis. On large group tours it is customary to pay around 5 EURO per person per day to the guide and about half of the amount to the minibus driver (up to your discretion). For small group or private tours the amount should be higher.

TELEPHONE
We recommend using a long distance calling card or buying a telephone card from a local kiosk or post office. For international calls dial the country code preceded by two zeros (i.e. 001 for the U.S. and Canada, 0044 for England etc). When calling from abroad remember that the country code of Turkey is 90. You may have to dial a prefix. For intercity calls within Turkey, you must first dial a 0, then the city code. When making a local call (inside a city or area) omit the city code. Istanbul has two city codes: 212 (European Side), 216 (Asian Side).

CLOTHING
Turkey is a modern country and dress is in general casual and comfortable. In Istanbul and other large cities including beachside resorts and major tourist centers you may dress as you like except when visiting mosques. Keep in mind that neither shorts/short skirts nor bare shoulders are allowed in the mosques, and that a head covering for women is greatly appreciated. You will be required to remove your shoes upon entering a mosque. We do recommend dressing more conservatively if you are visiting the central, eastern or Black Sea area. Bring a visor/hat or covering to avoid sunburn and plenty of sunscreen, also a daypack with a jacket or sweater and extra drinking water. Wear layered clothing, which is easily washable and sensible shoes with good soles.

TOILETS
Have small change when visiting a public toilet, as you will pay when exiting. Bring your own paper. There are two kinds of toilets in Turkey. One is the toilet you are used to at home, available in all hotels and almost everywhere, and the other is a squat toilet. Make sure that your pockets are empty before using the latter. BAY = Men BAYAN = Women

ELECTRICITY
Electrical appliances manufactured in the U.S. and various countries require the use of a standard two-prong adapter (continental style). A converter is also needed if the appliance doesn’t have dual voltage (220 V). Hair dryers are available at all 5 star hotels and most 4 star hotels.

TAXIS
Taxis are yellow. Fare is shown on the meter according to distance. It is best to go by the meter: showing “Gunduz” during the day until around midnight, and “Gece” after midnight to early morning (fare increases 50%). Most taxi drivers do not speak English.

FOOD
Turkish cuisine is considered one of the finest in the world and mostly you will encounter fresh meats and vegetable in a clean atmosphere. You will experience a wide variety of regtional culinary dishes on a typical tour. Although water is chlorinated in larger cities we highly recommend drinking bottled water only. During the month of Ramadan meals will be served as usual.

The Thai Beauty

Rarely do you find someone bored in Thailand… There’s always something to see! Certainly one of the inevitable ingredients to a trip to Thailand is plenty of trips to temples – they really are great places to see so this is no obligatory chore! Unlike some tourist attractions in other countries, Thailand’s temples are not just historical sites.

One of the key reasons people visit Thailand is the physical beauty of the place and for the adventurous there is plenty to see. Thailand abounds with waterfalls, hot springs and places of natural beauty. There are caves to see and mountains and hills to visit. But even in the cities and towns there flower gardens to escape to.

You will never want for a place to visit and something to see in Thailand. The wealth of attractions makes Thiland trip easy and means you can custom your tour to Thailand with what you want to see with relative ease. Make the most of what’s on offer with Sti travel Thailand affordable tours, and make the best of your time in the kingdom with our luxury deals to Thailand.

Given its rich diversity Thailand has a lot to offer its visitors. Of course, Bangkok is one place most start and end their visit to Thailand. The cultural and administrative centre of the country, Bangkok has plenty to offer. Of course, a big, brash, modern city like Bangkok has the creature comforts and entertainment that visitors look for and it’s famous for its famous nightlife. But beyond that, where should a visitor go in Thailand?

A visit to a Thailand beach or one of the many Thailand islands is an opportunity for visitors to relax, experience exotic marine life, or even learn to scuba dive. Thailand is a country with abundant natural resources, including a wide variety of flora and fauna, and distinct ecological zones.  There are over 100 Thailand national parks, including more than 20 marine parks, and each park features unique attractions, outstanding facilities, and opportunities to see animals in Thailand.  Those interested in trekking, mountain biking, photography, birding, camping, scuba diving, or getting up close to exotic animals in Thailand have many options to choose from. From the temperate forests of the northern mountains and the plains of central Thailand to the savannahs of the northeast and the mangrove forests of the southern coasts.  Animals in Thailand include not only elephants and monkeys but also bears and whale sharks, the world’s largest fish.

Thailand is often referred to as a golden land, not because there is precious metal buried underground but because the country gives off a certain luster, be it the fertile rice fields of the central plains, white sandy beaches or the warm hospitality of its citizenry.

Although there are numerous places that warrant a visit, there are some ‘staples’ – places that most visitors to Thailand end up visiting. Starting in the north, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are popular ports of call. Their dramatic mountainous landscapes coupled with unique histories make both intriguing and entertaining places to visit. Also in the north, Sukothai offers less in terms of dramatic scenery, but more in terms of history and culture. The ruins of Sukothai’s ancient city offer a glimpse of Thailand glorious past, as does Ayutthaya in central Thailand.

As yet a part of Thailand that is not visited as often of other regions, the northeast does offer some ‘off-the-beaten track’ treats. Buriram is becoming a firm favorite with visitors, as is Loei. Although Loei is in northeastern Thailand, it has a lot in common with the mountainous regions of the north. The coldest province in the county, Loei, offers dramatic scenery enhanced by the presence of mists and fogs.

Thailand’s eastern provinces have much to offer, not least Chonburi, home to Pattaya, one of Thailand’s leading destinations. Pattaya has the distinction of being the closest resort city to the capital and drawing masses of ‘weekenders’. It is also an international tourism destination in its own right. Pattaya’s finely tuned nightlife includes a huge offering of go-go alongside great restaurants and its own unique take on cabaret! Other resort cities include Hua Hin and Cha-am – both with excellent beaches and only a short drive from Bangkok.

Of course, Thailand is rightly renowned for its islands; some of the best island destinations in the world… clear waters, white and golden sands, palms and coconuts – truly paradise on earth. Some of the major islands to visit include Koh Chang – still emerging from relative obscurity and therefore still reasonably quiet.

The Phi Phi islands are famous too and include the actually place where ‘The Beach’ was filmed (yes – you too can stand where Leo stood!); Phuket- an island the size of Singapore with plenty of great beaches to experience; James Bond Island – yes, that island, the one in the ‘Man with the Golden Gun’; the Surin Islands – a bit tricky to get to but well worth the effort; Koh Samet – an island with a unique place in Thai culture and some glorious beaches; Koh Phanganan – famed for its Full Moon Parties and hedonism in paradise; and Koh Samui – an island of lovely beaches and bays, coconuts and forested hills.

Italy is a great country full of history and culture that amazes the world. Italy is located in Southern Europe, on the Italian Peninsula and it’s bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, which hosts two Italian Islands: Sardinia and Sicily. Italy is a country full of beauty, art and fashion, all these are mixed to give Italy a magic atmosphere and to captivate tourist from every corner of the world.

Discovering Italy can be a pleasant and unforgettable experience, each corner of this beautiful country will take you back in time to ancient times and you will recognize its great development till nowadays. Italy offers unbeatable touristic destinations such as: Florence and its artistic productions and fashion, Rome, the capital city known as the eternal city, Venice, the romantic city built under water, Verona, an imposing city setting of the drama “Romeo and Juliet”, and Milan, the most fashionable city in Italy.

Italy has countless places to visit and enjoy: firstly The Leaning Tower of Pisa or Torre pendent di Pisa in Italian, which is situated in Piazza dei Miracoli, the Tower was built under Romanesque style and it started to lean from its construction; it’s a symbol of Italy and its attractions.

However, the Leaning Tower is not a unique highlight in Italy; Rome, the capital of Italy, has many attractions and tours for all the family and great places to stay at such as the Rome Apartments scattered around the city; The museums in Rome and The Piazzas are some of the most interesting places in Italy, because most of the major artists, representatives of ancient times, were born in Italy and Rome conserves their artworks at the many museums, churches and even piazzas some of these places are: Saint Peter’s Square and Basilica, Castel Sant’ Angelo, Piazza Navona and the Fountin of Four Rivers, Santa Maria del Popolo and Piazza del Popolo and The Pantheon among other places.

The most popular Italy tours explore Rome, Florence and Venice. If you have more time then you can consider adding in Naples and the Amalfi Coast, or perhaps Milan and the Italian Riviera. Others may prefer to spend their time enjoying Tuscany or through the picturesque Italian Lakes. Italy offers something for everyone.

The Belpaese (Beautiful Country) is one of the single greatest repositories of sensorial pleasures on earth. From art to food, from stunning and varied countryside to flamboyant fashion, Italy has it all. This is the country that brought us Slow Food, devoted to the promotion of fresh products and fine traditional, cooking. What started as a local protest against fast food has become a worldwide movement.

With 44 sites, Italy has more Unesco World Heritage sites than any other country on earth. Its great citta d’arte (cities of art), like Rome, Venice and Florence, have been attracting visitors for centuries, and with good reason. At times, it seems like the country rests on its artistic laurels. This is not entirely true. Milan, the country’s financial hub, has created one of Europe’s biggest and most modern trade fairs and is planning a major residential development, the CityLife complex, in the heart of the city. Venice is possibly the city that has, in appearance, changed least down the decades but it has recently opened a sleek new bridge over the Grand Canal and a spectacular contemporary art space at the Punta della Dogana.

Alongside Italy’s art treasures, you’ll find plenty to keep you busy in the countryside. You can ski in the Alps, hike the Dolomites or dive off Sardinia’s golden coast. Adrenalin junkies can catch fireworks on Sicily’s volatile volcanoes. But as much as all of this, a trip to Italy is about lapping up the lifestyle. It’s about idling over a coffee at a streetside cafe or lingering over a long lunch in the hot Mediterranean sun.

Besides all the attractions, nature has a special place in every trip to Italy; the amazing panoramic natural resources and landscapes such as: The Alps in the North, The Bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius are some of the most famous views.

Escape to Greece and capture the beauty!

If you are planning to visit Greece, there are two things that you should definitely bring with you: a high-quality digital camera to capture breathtaking sceneries and a high-capacity memory card to store as many pictures as you can!

You might have the perfect Greece vacation in mind, but you might not know how to start planning all the details. Or perhaps you think you may get in over your head by trying to do part, or all, of Greece trips on your own.

STI travel can take care of all the planning, so all you have to do is go on vacation.

We provide you with your vacation package to Greece, STI offers you luxury deals to Greece, variety of Greece vacation packages and trips to Greece.

Think of the perfect city break. And then visit a Greek city, where it will be planed and organized for you!

A walk around the old neighborhoods reveals the coexistence of different eras in cities’ heart. Old mansions, many of them well-preserved, luxurious department stores and small intimate shops, fancy restaurants and traditional taverns are located one next to another. All have their place here!

The Greek spirit, a force of creativity and renewal throughout Greece’s long history, has yet again transformed the urban landscape. Greece is a unique destination that combines business and pleasure in the best possible way! It is one of the most charismatic locations in terms of natural beauty, with mild climate conditions, a combination of landscapes from sea to mountains and appropriate for vacation and business activities throughout the year!

Even museums can wonderfully combine a tour to an archaeological site with a philosophical conference, thus demonstrating the magnificence of ancient civilization through modern culture!

Greece is now dynamically entering the city tourism sector on the global map.

There’s no end of monuments and attractions in Athens, Greece but these are the best of the best that you won’t want to miss in your travel to Greece.

Agora is one attraction that gets skipped, partly because it is readily confused with the Roman Agora and while you’d be falling over yourself to visit a Roman agora in Italy, well, this is Greece. (For the same reason, the very nice Egyptian antiquities collection at the National Archaeological Museum gets overlooked, too – except by Greeks.) But this spot offers an easy hour’s wandering, with the almost-perfect temple of Hephaestus, a rebuilt colonnade housing the museum, and many minor monuments. A multiple-site combo ticket makes it a particularly good bargain to combine a visit here with the Acropolis and other nearby sites.

A short break in Greece can take you a long way…

Off the Beaten Track

CAPERNAUM, Israel – A new trail across northern Israel offers travelers the chance to walk – or trot – through New Testament sites in the footsteps of Jesus.

The newly opened Gospel Trail winds for 39 miles, heading south from Nazareth, across gentle green hills, through Jewish and Arab towns and down to Capernaum, the fishing town where Jesus is said to have established his home base.

On the Gospel Trail, tourists can ride toward the Sea of Galilee on horseback, accompanied by escorts from a nearby ranch wearing jeans, big belt buckles and embroidered cowboy boots with spurs. The scene feels more Texas than Gospel, especially because according to the New Testament, Jesus’ mount of choice was a donkey. Horses were considered vehicles of war.

But as the horses canter to Capernaum, past the occasional grazing cow in a grassy pasture, with the sun setting over the distant hills of the Golan Heights, visitors can imagine for a moment that they have returned to the Holy Land of two millennia past.

As you complete your visits to the main tourist attractions in Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv or Haifa, put down that Israel guided tour and join STI Travel for exciting excursions in Israel to historic and religious sites, national parks and numerous places of interest for children.

STI Travel is a virtual tours package to Israel of some of the most interesting sites to see when traveling to Israel. Our blogs are “off the beaten track” day trips, which will take you to places away from the major cities, yet within a 60 to 90 minute drive from Tel-Aviv or Jerusalem. As your personal tour guide, we offer you Israel guided tours, we have created interesting and varied Israel travel trips, from several hours to half day in duration. Our Israel tour by car may within minutes take you from that perfect Israel vacations on a sun-drenched beach, to a winding road to explore a mountain top castle or to a beautiful and mysterious desert landscape. Though travel to Israel is perhaps best in the spring and fall, the packages we have created are appropriate for holy land travel at anytime of the year.

We are intimately familiar with sights in Israel that are especially meaningful to the first time tourist or the returning traveler. All the while, you will be introduced to out of the way places that are easily accessible, kid friendly, and important to all faiths. We have taken our own interest in archaeology, the bible, history and politics of the region, to write detailed blogs, which will permit you to thoroughly appreciate the places in Israel that you are visiting. You can then use the featured links to further explore other attractions in Israel or broaden your understanding of the holyland to make your Israel trip a truly memorable experience.

You can be taken to the northern section of the Jezreel Valley, with a drive over the Gilboa mountain range, into the Jordan River valley. The area, though relatively compact, is replete with historical and biblical significance, and is often referenced in the Old and New Testament. Our journey will first take us to the ornate basilica on the top of Mt. Tabor, venerated by Christians as the site of Jesus’ Transfiguration. After a stop at one of Israel’s premier art museums at Kibbutz Ein Harod, we will make our way to nearby Ma’ayan Harod National Park, at whose spring, it is said, and Gideon chose his most capable warriors in the battle of the Israelites against the Midianites. A scenic excursion over the adjacent Gilboa Mountains will lead us to the impressive 6th century Zodiac mosaic at the Beit Alpha Synagogue. At nearby Gan Hashlosha, a swim break, or a visit to an Australian themed nature preserve to visit kangaroos and koalas, will delight the kids. Later it’s on to visit a majestic Crusader era castle and the museum site of a former kibbutz and hydroelectric power plant at the Israel-Jordan border.

From Tel-Aviv or Jerusalem it’s about a 90 minute drive to Mt. Tabor. Take route 6 to the “Iron” exit and proceed north through the “Wadi Ara” toward Afula. You’ll be traveling on Route 65 through the Arab villages of Umm el Fahm and Musmus, following the path taken by Egyptian forces led by Pharaoh Thutmose III more than 3400 years ago. As you wind your way down from the heights, you’ll note Tel Megiddo on the left, which merits a long visit if you are an archaeology buff. This is also the site, as referenced in some Christian liturgy, as the future Armageddon.

You have now entered the Jezreel valley, called in Hebrew Emek Yisrael, which today is home to countless moshavim and kibbutzim, harvesting much of Israel’s grain, cotton, produce and sunflowers. In antiquity, the valley saw epic battles between the Egyptians and the King of Kadesh, Gideon and the Midianites, Saul and the Philistines, and Romans against Jewish forces. In modern times, Napoleon led his French troops through the valley, as did General Allenby in his advance against Ottoman forces in World War I.
